Sažetak
This study analyses the properties of polymer blends based on polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), polylactide (PLA), polycaprolactone (PCL), and thermoplastic starch (TPS) to better understand their potential application as biodegradable materials. The results indicate that pure PCL and PLA exhibit hydrophilic surfaces, while the surfaces of PHA and TPS are hydrophobic. Analysis of the adhesion parameters suggests that the best interactions are likely to occur at the interface of the TPS/PHA polymer blend. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection reveals that blending the pure polymer materials leads to physical changes within the blends. Differential scanning calorimetry shows that PHA, PLA, and PCL have semi-crystalline structures, whereas TPS is entirely amorphous. The study also demonstrates partial miscibility of the components within the polymer blends. Analysis of the mechanical properties suggests that blending PLA and PCL with PHA into polymer blends enhances their properties.
