Abstract

The author reviews Vedran Gligo’s work »The Speeches against the Turks« considering it is the worth share to our knowledge of the Croatian history in the late Middle Ages. At the same time he draws our attention to some open problems in our historiography. The historian has to be cautious in conclusions because the period of the Turkish wars and their consequences upon the Croatian territory is inadequately investigated. The mentioned speeches against the Turks prove the changes in the world of the political ideas in Dalmatian cities at the end of the fifteenth and the beginning of the sixteenth century. The Turkish danger causes the sense of common destiny among the communes and the Croatian hinterland.
