The Historijski zbornik (Historical Journal) is the central journal of Croatian historians, reflecting the development of Croatian historiography from the end of the Second World War to the present day. The publisher of the journal is the Association for Croatian History, formerly the Historical Society of Croatia, i.e. the Association of Historical Societies of Croatia. It is the oldest professional association of historians in the Republic of Croatia, continuously active since 1947. Historijski zbornik has been published without interruption since 1948, when the first volume appeared. For a long time, the journal was closely associated with Jaroslav Šidak, who edited a total of 27 volumes. The only exception occurred with volumes 29–30 (1976–1977), dedicated to Šidak himself, which were edited by Mirjana Gross. Šidak was succeeded as editor by Ivan Kampuš, a long-time member of the editorial board and the journal’s secretary. Kampuš edited 13 volumes, from 1985 to 1997. He was followed by Ivica Prlender, and from 2008 to 2022 the editor-in-chief was Damir Agičić. The journal publishes research, theoretical, and methodological scholarly articles in the field of history and related humanities, covering periods from antiquity to the present. The geographical focus of the topics is primarily on the Croatian area and its neighboring regions of Southeastern and Central Europe, as well as countries of the Mediterranean circle. The journal publishes articles in Croatian and English. No fees are charged to authors for publication. The journal applies a principle of non-discrimination toward all authors, and submissions are open to everyone without restriction. The journal is classified in category A1, which denotes a level of quality equivalent to journals with internationally recognized peer review. Articles and studies from Historijski zbornik are indexed in the following databases: ERIH Plus, Historical Abstracts (EBSCO), Hrčak, and Scopus. Manuscripts are submitted to the editorial board continuously throughout the year exclusively via the website: https://hrcak.srce.hr/ojs/index.php/historijski-zbornik/index
