Abstract
Most of the old traditional cultivars of fruit species often have other, usually local, names or synonyms besides the main name. These are quite old cultivars that have been grown in the same area for many years, so it is believed that some of them originate from that area, but the trace of their actual origin has been lost. Due to the similarity of each cultivar, wrong cultivar names are often used, and for the same reason the problem of cultivar identification arises. Cultivars can be identified by pomological and molecular methods. To confirm the identity of cultivars, the presence of collection plantings that can be used for comparisons and cultivar identification is of great importance. The paper deals with the issue of synonyms in fruit growing using the example of the cultivar 'Slavonska Srčika', a cultivar from Slavonia, which is often replaced by the foreign cultivars 'Zeleni Štetinec' and 'Zelena Kneževka'.
