Abstract

As a consequence of a phenomenon and as a result of today’s fast urban lifestyle, a large number of population harbors a desire to return to the nature. The existing natural and cultural resources of the Slavonian region are conducive to the development of agritourism, which opens up countless possibilities for the development of rural areas. By virtue of an introduction of nonagricultural activities into their offer as an additional income, the development and improvement of agricultural production, of all service activities and other family farms, and especially of their economic stability comes along with the development of rural tourism . The development of rural tourism encourages the revitalization of rural areas, contributes to the valorization of cultural heritage, and supports the creation of a year-round tourist product, in spite of a somewhat seasonal nature of tourism industry. Researching the case of Kuća moje baštine as an example of good agritourism practice , the goal was to examine a contribution to the development of Nova Gradiška’s destination identity and to examine how and in what way it enriches the local offer. In the paper, the SWOT and PESTLE analyses were applied, which refer to the possible risks and opportunities for the development of a replica ethnic house. Pereivable herein is an important role of the tourist boards, which are in charge of tourism-industry development. In their systematic and coordinated work, the local tourist boards are responsible for the recognition of all potentials of a local rural area and for the empowerment of all participants in order to successfully overcome the weaknesses and threats they face.
