Abstract

The article examines the most important criminal law institutes of the Dubrovnik Republic, thanks to the extensive literature of researchers who have historiographically analyzed certain topics, studying original
documents, comparing the obtained results and enriching knowledge about another and different period of state and law as they once existed. Studying the most important scientific works in this field of research, the author presented in a concise and systematic way how criminal law functioned, which penalties and punishments existed, what the political and legal conditions were like at that time, and showed how a conservative criminal justice system of the Dubrovnik Republic is different from today’s modern understanding of criminal law.
