Elly Ebenspanger: Some Traces and the Reception

Sažetak
This paper examines some aspects of the life, work, and reception of Elly Ebenspanger, a Croatian women philosopher who earned her doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zagreb in 1939 on the topic of the free will problem. Some of the things discussed in the paper have been entirely overlooked in the existing literature about her despite being sometimes obvious and very intriguing. The paper also revisits and summarises previously recorded information about her from the literature. Her life, work, and reception are analysed within the context of the pre-war circumstances during which she studied and wrote her doctoral dissertation. Furthermore, they are considered in the circumstances of World War II, when she perished, as well as in the context of post-war social and philosophical events over the last eighty years. Her work and activities are also connected with some persons from these periods, such as Albert Bazala, Marijan Petras, Kruno Krstić, and Zdenko Vojnović.
