Sažetak

The cosmopolitan idea has evolved for more than two millennia, which accounts for the richness and diversity of thought within its tradition. Originally an ethical idea of philosophical origin, modern cosmopolitanism has also developed as a cultural stance, as well as a political and legal concept advocating the establishment of democratic world governance. The dominant form of contemporary cosmopolitan thought bears a distinctly political character, and the contribution of Immanuel Kant in his essay Perpetual Peace was crucial for its initial development. Although his influence was significant, modern political cosmopolitanism often neglects the broader scope of Kant’s work. To address this oversight, the present paper aims to highlight the connections between the ideas of Kant and Rousseau—not only in their political writings but also in those dealing with educational themes. Finally, their influence on contemporary authors concerned with cosmopolitan education will be compared, with the aim of demonstrating that cosmopolitics is not the only path to establishing a cosmopolitan society.
