Sažetak
Small winter cereals are among the most important agricultural plants in the seed production system in the Republic of Croatia. In the Republic of Croatia, new varieties of winter small cereals are registrated based on a twoyear testing of distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS) and economic value (VCU). After the registration procedure is completed, the variety is entered into the Variety List of the Republic of Croatia (SLRH), the EU Common Variety List (CC) and the OECD list, according to the decision on registration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. After the variety is entered into the variety list, seed production begins, and winter small cereal seed crops are required to undergo field inspection during the growing season at the time of flowering and ripening. Winter small cereal seed production in the Republic of Croatia, on average from 2015 to 2024, takes place on 10,437.28 ha. After seed production, the certification procedure begins so that the small cereal seed can be placed on the domestic market and third-country markets. On average from 2015 to 2024, 46,673.57 t of small cereal seed were certified. A seed certificate for small grains is extremely important because, in addition to guaranteeing the desired varietal identity to the agricultural producer, it also guarantees that the seed is free from quarantine pests.
