SCHOOLS IN GRIŽANE AND BLAŠKOVIĆI: Feature for the History of Schooling in Grižane-Belgrad Area
Ivan Barbarić
Abstract
The beginning of the first "schools" in the area of GrižaneBelgrad reaches to the far 16th century when the Belgrad’s canons and other church officials, as in the neighboring places, and the St Paul’s order in Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski, gathered children and taught them in the beginning theology, and later literacy and arithmetic, and then the basics of land farming. In the 18th century the first private and later public (district) schools were founded. That is how in Grižane a first district school was founded on the 6th of May 1857 and in Blaškovići on the 7th of September 1885. These schools entered into the system of the Central elementary school in Tribalj as district schools with first four grades, but due to the small number of students were closed and the students were transported with school buses to Tribalj where an eight year education was organized. Among the completion of this school most students continued secondary education in Crikvenica, Rijeka or other places which had organized secondary education. School buildings stood for some time unused and empty, but there is work being done for them to be put back into use again. That is how, for example a regular exhibition about work and life of Juraj Julije Klović has been set up in Grižane and an art workshop of Marijan Mavrić has been opened.
