Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to the global hotel industry, focusing on the evaluation of crisis strategies employed by hotel management.
Research Design / Methodology: A literature review was conducted, synthesizing findings from 21 relevant studies retrieved from Google Scholar. Thematic analysis was employed to identify and categorize key challenges faced by the hotel industry during the pandemic.
Findings: From the thematic analysis, four primary challenges emerged: economic, social, security, and political. These challenges underscored the profound disruptions caused by COVID-19, highlighting the interconnectedness of global systems and the vulnerability of the hospitality industry. Effective crisis management practices were discerned, emphasizing the integration of preventive measures, preparedness strategies, responsive actions, and post-crisis recovery initiatives.
Conclusions: The study emphasizes the necessity for proactive crisis management in the hotel industry, recommending measures such as diversifying revenue streams, enhancing digital capabilities, and implementing stringent health protocols. Recommendations also include developing robust crisis preparedness plans, continuously monitoring regulatory changes, and investing in resilient infrastructure and workforce training to enhance organizational resilience and adaptability. This study offers practical insights into crisis management strategies tailored to the hotel industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. By synthesizing literature and identifying key challenges, the study provides actionable recommendations to enhance the industry’s resilience in navigating future crises effectively.
