Jagoda Kljaić: Life and Work by the Roadside
Ilija Ranić
; Politolog, Zagreb
Sažetak
This article is an homage to one impressive literary work and one cultural-social phenomenon, on occasion of Jagoda Kljaić's 75th birthday. Kljaić is a very productive author of short stories, poems and columns, who works outside literary circles and institutions, with no support
by state institutions, local or regional governments, or within her own ethnic community, thus outside various interest groups and power structures. The article offers an overview of the work of Jagoda Kljaić's worthy opus, which includes one major collection of poetry written in local dialect of Banija. We also aim at drawing attention to life and work circumstances by the roadside, on the margins. The article describes her views on literature and world. This paper has no ambition to present a full literary analysis of Kljaić's work, but it pleads for a realistic and fair assessment of her work, and for paying more attention to it.
