Opportunities and Risks of ChatGPT's Impact on the School System – The Example of School Librarians in the Virovitica-Podravina County

Abstract
This paper aims to explore the possibilities and challenges of applying ChatGPT in the school system, with particular focus on school librarians in Virovitica-Podravina County. It examines the development and use of ChatGPT in education; including its role in personalized learning, support for teachers and librarians, and issues such as ethics and source credibility. Research conducted among librarians indicated a positive perception of the tool, its current use, and its perceived benefits for various stakeholders in the education sector. Based on these findings, the paper presents key challenges and offers recommendations for implementation. The study results show that 90 % of the librarians have used ChatGPT, with the majority also highlighting the need for education, clear guidelines, and technical support. The paper provides specific suggestions for the responsible integration of ChatGPT into the school system, emphasizing the importance of systematic education, the development of clear guidelines, and appropriate technical and organizational solutions.
