Abstract
Given the lack of research in the existing (especially domestic) literature examining the attitudes of (future) teachers toward homework, this study aimed to validate the Questionnaire on Attitudes of (Future) Primary School Teachers Toward Homework. The aims of the study were to examine the questionnaire’s factor structure, confirm it through confirmatory factor analysis and assess model- fit indices, and to evaluate its reliability. The study included N=184 students enrolled in teacher education programs. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed the existence of two factors: Attitude toward Homework and Practice of Planning and Reviewing Homework. Reliability testing using Cronbach’s alpha (α=.71 and α=.62) and McDonald’s omega (ω=.79 and ω=.62) indicated relatively acceptable reliability. Although the hypothesised single factor structure proved inadequate in the factor analysis because it lacked theoretical and methodological consistency with the focus of the study, a meaningful factor structure was identified that centers on elements essential to understanding teachers’ attitudes toward homework. It can be concluded that the questionnaire is valid for assessing the attitudes of both future and current teachers toward homework. The results suggest that future teachers recognize the value of homework but also highlight the need to pay attention to its quality and quantity in order to avoid undesirable effects
