Abstract

Robotic surgery has become an integral part of modern urology over the past two decades. Urology was among the first specialties to adopt minimally invasive techniques,with robotics further enhancing safety and precision. Following pioneering laparoscopic procedures, the first robot-assisted radical prostatectomy marked the start of a new era.The Da Vinci system remained the sole commercially available platform for many years,becoming the gold standard for prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, and cystectomy. The introduction of alternative systems such as Hugo, Versius, Senhance, Hinotori, and Revo-ihas expanded the market and fostered competition. Robotic technology is also increasingly applied in less common but technically demanding procedures, including adrenalectomy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, and kidney transplantation. The Croatian robotic surgery program in urology began in 2019 at University Hospital Centre Zagreb with the Senhance system. Today, procedures are also performed using Da Vinci and Hugo platforms in two other centres. Published experiences confirm feasibility and safety, with outcomes comparable to other minimally invasive techniques. Robotic surgery in urology is evolving rapidly. Future developments will include artificial intelligence and digital integration, but robots will remain advanced tools that complement, rather than replace, surgical expertise.
