Abstract
Aim: The simultaneous occurrence of primary colorectal carcinoma and renal carcinoma is extremely rare. The aim of this case report is to highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and the planning of surgical treatment in complex oncological patients. Case report: A 78-year-old male patient underwent colonoscopy, followed by a CTcolonography, which revealed a stenosing lesion of the sigmoid colon and a primary tumor of the left kidney. His medical history was notable for prostate cancer, which was well controlled with ongoing hormonal therapy at the time of these new diagnoses. After a multidisciplinary team discussion and in agreement with the patient, it was decided to perform a single-stage surgical procedure, a combined laparoscopic anterior resection of the rectum with left nephrectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful. Pathohistological analysis confirmed adenocarcinoma of the colon and clear cell renal carcinoma. The patient has been regularly followed in oncological check-ups, and up until now, all three primary malignancies have remained stable, with no signs of progression. Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of a comprehensive diagnostic approach, which enables timely detection of additional malignancies that, although rare, may be present simultaneously. In selected patients, when clinical conditions allow, synchronous surgery can be the treatment of choice, provided there is a multidisciplinary approach and careful preoperative planning.
