Abstract

This paper analyzes the differences in professional development of physical education teachers in both primary and secondary schools in Istria and Primorje-Gorski Kotar counties
Teacher professional development is increasingly viewed as a dynamic and multidimensional process that goes beyond formal forms of education and requires an appropriate level of intrinsic motivation from teachers.
A survey conducted on a sample of 151 respondents revealed statistically significant differences in participation in online education and national-level training, with higher involvement in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
The findings suggest that motivation and institutional support have a significant impact on both the forms and frequency of professional development.
Although respondents emphasize the importance of training for personal advancement and work quality, lack of time remains the most common reason for non-participation.
However, professional advancement remains a strong motivator, which falls under extrinsic motivation and raises questions about the quality and sustainability of that motivation.
