Abstract
This article explores the application of Realist theory in International Relations to Serbia’s foreign policy, with a focus on President Aleksandar Vučić’s2023 speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The speech, which emphasizes state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interest, is analyzed through a Realist lens, highlighting Serbia’s diplomatic balancing act between the European Union, Russia, and China. The study examines how Serbia navigates competing global interests while defending its territorial claims, particularly in Kosovo. By employing diplomacy as a tool for survival, Vučić’s approach demonstrates core Realist principles such as power politics, the limits of international law, and the pursuit of national interests in a multipolar world. The article also discusses the challenges Serbia faces in maintaining this strategic balance amidst evolving global power dynamics.
