Abstract

Treatment of obesity remains one of the greatest challenges in modern medicine, stemming from the complexity of the disease itself, its multifactorial etiology, and chronic course. Lifestyle modification aimed at adopting healthier eating habits and increasing physical activity levels forms the foundation of all interventions focused on the prevention and treatment of both preclinical and clinical obesity, as well as obesity-related chronic diseases. Modern pharmacotherapy for obesity counters the powerful biological adaptive mechanisms that the body activates in response to weight loss, resulting in significant and sustainable long-term outcomes. In cases where conservative treatment methods fail to achieve satisfactory results, bariatric surgery becomes an option that offers not only weight reduction but also the potential remission of obesity-related diseases, especially in individuals with more severe forms of clinical obesity. Despite the growing number of effective therapeutic options, the success of treatment largely depends on the timely recognition of obesity as a chronic disease and the provision of systematic, long-term, and individualized care. Contemporary obesity treatment guidelines emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and continuous follow-ups of patients throughout the entire continuum of obesity care.
