Abstract
One of the main tasks of adolescence is to build up a satisfactory heterosexual relationship. The process of approaching the opposite sex starts with flirting, continues with falling in love and is supposed to reach its mature form in taking responsibility for another person. The author examines the major characteristics of mature love such as reciprocity, plurality and dynamic adjustment to the other person. It is the duty of the parents and educators to help young people to reach this level of mature love. The Church can foster this process of maturation by offering a christian vision of love as expressed in 1 Cor 13.
