Sažetak

The rise of disinformation, manipulative and propaganda content, as well as ‎content produced by generative artificial intelligence has prompted armed ‎forces systems to introduce media literacy education programs. In the new ‎circumstances, media literacy is increasingly becoming an integral component‎ of defense strategy. This article examines the familiarity of members of ‎the armed forces with the concept of media literacy and, at the same time, describes respondents’ media literacy skills, with a focus on the evaluation and ‎analysis of specific examples. We present the results of research conducted‎ with two target groups: military personnel at the “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” Croatian‎ Military Academy and undergraduate university students in the Military‎ Leadership and Management Program. The research, which involved 421 respondents, ‎also describes the risks posed by the lack of media literacy programs‎ and the need for systematic education of the military personnel to ensure‎ the security and the operational efficiency of the armed forces.‎‎
