Sažetak
The rise of disinformation, manipulative and propaganda content, as well as content produced by generative artificial intelligence has prompted armed forces systems to introduce media literacy education programs. In the new circumstances, media literacy is increasingly becoming an integral component of defense strategy. This article examines the familiarity of members of the armed forces with the concept of media literacy and, at the same time, describes respondents’ media literacy skills, with a focus on the evaluation and analysis of specific examples. We present the results of research conducted with two target groups: military personnel at the “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” Croatian Military Academy and undergraduate university students in the Military Leadership and Management Program. The research, which involved 421 respondents, also describes the risks posed by the lack of media literacy programs and the need for systematic education of the military personnel to ensure the security and the operational efficiency of the armed forces.
