Sažetak
This paper analyses the toponymy of the villages of Brijesta and Dančanje on
the Pelješac peninsula. Both villages were first mentioned in historical documents
at the end of the 14th century. In the introductory part, the historical and demographic
data is briefly presented. The central part of the paper analyses the motivation
of the toponyms. In toponymy, there are frequent reflections of appellatives
of Dalmatian-Romanic origin (e.g. Kala stranja, Mirine, Na boti, Na peči,
Škrape). As expected, the most frequent adstratum layer is the Venetian stratum,
which occurs most frequently in toponyms reflecting the economic activities of
the local inhabitants (e.g. Krok and Posta).
