Abstract

Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork conducted with Filipino labor migrants in Croatia a(2024–2025), this article foregrounds a reflexive engagement with the methodological and epistemological dimensions of the research process. The central question explores what emerges throughout ethnographic research beyond its immediate subject matter – subtle yet meaningful relations, insights, and transformations that take shape within a given research and social context. The author aims to identify latent moments within the ethnographic process and method that hold a transformative potential to foster conviviality, while empowering society from below. Theoretically, these reflections are informed by the ontogenetic turn. Finally, the discussion situates the research with Filipino labor migrants in Croatia within the framework of an ethnology of the new proximate.
