Abstract
Dog attacks on humans represent a serious safety concern, especially in urban areas where the likelihood
of such incidents is higher. Canine behavior is influenced by environmental and genetic factors, upbringing,
socialization, and stressful events. Preventing attacks is a key responsibility of the owner, who bears criminal
liability for their animal. In the event of a dog attack, it is necessary to conduct a thorough forensic investigation
that includes the collection of biological traces, evidence analysis, and witness interviews. Advanced
methods, such as DNA analysis, enable precise identification of the animal perpetrator, even when it leaves the
scene. A crucial part of the investigation is an analysis of the crime scene, where proper evidence collection
and preservation are essential. In court proceedings, witnesses and expert consultants play a significant role
in clarifying the circumstances of the incident. Forensic veterinary medicine deals with cases in which animals
are involved as perpetrators or victims. Animal bites can have medical, legal, and insurance implications,
including physical injuries, infections, psychological consequences, and property damage. Police officers, in
collaboration with forensic veterinarians, assess suspicious animals, and DNA analysis serves as key evidence.
STR analysis is becoming a standard method for the identification and genetic characterization of dogs, particularly
in cases of abuse, theft, illegal fighting, and attacks on humans. Forensic analysis of biological traces,
including blood, hair, and saliva, enables the precise connection of an animal to a criminal offense, which is
crucial for the enforcement of justice.
