Abstract

To document and record the Chakavian speech and to fill the gap in dialectological descriptions of the South Chakavian variety, we »followed the trail of the oldest« on a central Dalmatian island. This is the island of Hvar, specifically the speech of Sveta Nedija, which has not been described in the dialectological literature at any linguistic level. Therefore, this paper presents certain phonological and morphological features, as well as syntactic and lexical ones. The analysis has shown that the speech of Sveta Nedija represents a valuable part of the Croatian dialectal heritage and deserves its own place and description in dialectological literature.
