Sažetak
The paper examines whether stress is present, and to what extent, in the business communication of libraries in the Brodsko-posavska County. This work contributes to understanding the consequences of stress in the business communication of libraries, raises questions about communication practices among librarians, their working conditions, and their perception of support and involvement in library operations. For this purpose, a survey was conducted involving librarians from all types of libraries: public, school, university, and special libraries. The paper is structured in such a way that, through the lens of business communication, it introduces the topic of stress in the business communication of libraries. The introductory section provides an overview of the topic and emphasizes the importance of studying stress in business communication in general, as well as in the specific context of librarianship. Business communication is presented as a key process that is crucial for the successful functioning of libraries. Definitions of basic concepts, types, and the significance of communication contribute to a clearer understanding of the business communication process. In the paper, stress is defined as a complex process that arises when demands exceed an individual’s capacity. The paper further considers the causes of stress, its consequences, and its impact on the work environment. The main part of the paper focuses on the investigation of stress in business communication within libraries and includes an analysis of a survey conducted among 31 librarians in Brodsko-posavska County. The research examines the sources of stress, the frequency of stressful situations, and their impact on communication with fellow librarians and users. The results obtained through the questionnaire indicate certain challenges of the library profession. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of a continuous approach to addressing stress in business communication and proposes concrete measures for improving working conditions in libraries.
