Abstract

Early prostate cancer is a localized disease inside the prostate devoid of distant metastases, often asymptomatic with a favorable prognosis. Diagnostics include a digital rectal exam (DRE), PSA test, multiparametric magnetic resonance (mpMR) and prostate biopsy. Risk of prostate cancer development increases with age, genetics and environmental circumstances. Therapeutic routes depend on the degree of risk and consist of active observation, radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy, and experimental focal methods. A personalized patient approach is made based on progression risk, comorbidities and patient preferences, with the aim of effective disease control and preservation of quality of life.
