Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common and complex medical condition affecting men’s quality of life. It is defined as a persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. The etiology of ED is multifactorial, with vascular, neurological, hormonal, and psychological factors. A modern diagnostic approach requires thorough patient history analysis, physical examination, laboratory and instrumental evaluation. Treatment is multidisciplinary and includes lifestyle modifications, pharmacotherapy (mainly PDE5 inhibitors), erection support devices, psychotherapy, and surgical interventions in selected cases. This review presents recent insights into the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of ED, emphasizing the importance of individualized care and integration of novel therapies.
