Sažetak
The Split Literary Scene was initiated in the autumn of 1967 through the efforts of
Marko Fotez and several key local cultural institutions, most notably the Theatre, Matica
hrvatska, the Cultural and Artistic Agency, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, and the Student Center. Conceived with the aim of enriching the city’s cultural
offerings and shaping young audiences as future theatre-goers, it represented a successful
and innovative literary and performative departure within the context of contemporary
literary and theatrical developments of the time. Although these events did not belong exclusively to poetry, nor did their staging adhere strictly to the criteria of theatrical performance, literary–scenic manifestations were reduced to essential elements in order to achieve an artistic experience in which the spoken word functioned as an artistic language, eliciting an appropriate reception and atmosphere among audiences. This is further evidenced by contemporary theatrical chronicles.
