Sažetak
Civil associations represent a very heterogeneous set of organizations whose members have gathered and united around shared activities and goals. Associations are registered in four different registers administered by various institutions. When operating, associations rely to a large extent on public funds. Previous research has most often dealt with a specific association or associations working in a particular field. At the same time, there are almost no studies covering general issues surrounding the activities of associations. This research deals with the analysis of the state and needs of associations on a general level and is divided into two parts: analysis of public data on associations based on information from four registers and analysis of collected data on various aspects of the activities of associations. The results indicate a noticeable lack of timeliness and inconsistency of data between registers, high ignorance and non-compliance with legal norms by the legal representatives of associations, failure to control the work of associations by institutions, significant problems in the financing of associations by both, associations and by those who announce tenders, but also high satisfaction with the results of the work of associations. Additionally, this paper brings fifteen recommendations to decision makers in the field of associations and to associations on how to improve the situation in the area of associations.
