Computer mouse movements as indicators of ambivalence in the evaluation of emotional visual stimuli

Sažetak
Over the past two decades, social research utilizing computer-based methods has increasingly incorporated the recording and analysis of participants’ mouse movements during experimental tasks. Today, advanced software tools can capture, process, and compute a wide range of measures derived from mouse movement data. The present study aimed to identify which of these measures could serve as indicators of ambivalence when participants evaluate emotional visual stimuli. According to the aim of this study, a computerized test was developed, and an experimental study was conducted with a sample of 72 students. Study’s results indicate indicate that several key measures of computer mouse movement are significantly associated with the level of indecision during choice and can serve as valid indicators. Additionally, significant correlations were observed among several mouse movement measures. These findings support the use of mouse movement data as an alternative or complementary measure to traditional indicators, such as reaction time, in this type of research.
