Abstract
This paper reviews articles published in Gospodarski list from 1850 to 1894, up to the founding of the Croatian-Slavonian Veterinary Society (1893) and the Croatian Veterinary Society (1894). Over these 45 years, 22 articles appeared in the journal: 8 addressed the general improvement of livestock breeding, 4 focused on pig breeding, and 10 on poultry breeding. Most articles were written by anonymous authors, but their content indicates that some were reputable livestock breeders. One article was published in each of the years 1858, 1870, 1873, 1879, 1880, 1882, 1887, 1888, 1891, and 1901, while two articles appeared in each of the years 1855, 1859, 1874, 1875, and 1892. The livestock breeding articles mainly discuss livestock feeding, stable requirements, and animal welfare, with particular attention to livestock transport. The poultry farming articles primarily cover hatching methods using hens and feeding newly hatched chicks.
