Imigracija i integracija imigranata u odabranim zemljama EU15 i Švicarskoj (1945. – 2015.): povijest i politike

Abstract
Since the end of the Second World War, more economically developed European countries have become attractive for migrants both inside and outside the continent. Given that migration is still an actual process, it is useful to analyze how it has changed over time, just like the immigration and integration policies that followed it. Analyzing selected EU15 countries and Switzerland, this paper examines the method of arrival, the sociodemographic structure
of immigrants and the diversity of regulatory and implementation policies related to immigration and integration. The first part of the paper describes the history of immigration in the period from 1945 to 2015, which is divided into three phases. The first phase is characterized by labor demand in the years of post-war economic growth; in the second, the family reunification process and increased refugee migration dominate; the third phase is dominated by migration from former socialist countries and the consolidation of southern European countries as immigrant destinations. The second part of the paper describes the development and diversity of immigration and integration policies, which have recently become mandatory. The paper shows that the way immigrants arrive and the occupations they take vary over time. Immigration policies have varied across countries, but have become increasingly
similar over time. The need for integration policies was recognized relatively late, although it has been accepted by a large number of member states.
