Sažetak
A significant group of poultry diseases are diseases of bacterial etiology, and the most important bacterial diseases in poultry are salmonellosis, colibacillosis, mycoplasmosis, fowl cholera, necrotic enteritis, campylobacteriosis, gangrenous dermatitis, paratyphoid, infectious coryza and tuberculosis. The aim of this research was to investigate the proportion of diseases of bacterial, viral and parasitic etiology and the prevalence of bacterial diseases in domestic poultry on small farms in Croatia, for which such data do not exist. For this purpose, laboratory data on 219 laying hens, broilers, turkeys and ducks originating from 121 farms in northwestern Croatia were processed during the 2014-2023 period. Complete necropsy was performed on the animals and the necessary laboratory tests were performed in order to determine the cause of death, and the results showed that diseases of bacterial etiology accounted for 51.6%, protozoal diseases for 25.1%, and viral diseases for 7.7% of total cases. In 6.4% of cases, helminths were involved, and in 5.5% extreme ectoparasite infestations were determined. In 3.7% of cases, the cause of death was due to mistakes in feeding and flock management. Among the disease cases of bacterial etiology, 57.5% of diagnoses involved infections with E. coli (APEC), while infections with Salmonella spp. Were found in 18.6% of cases. Streptococcal infections, mycoplasmosis, infection with staphylococci, coligranulomatosis, egg peritonitis, Clostridium perfringens infections and fowl cholera were represented by 6.2%, 5.3%, 3.5%, 2.7%, 2.7%, 1.8% and 1.8%, respectively.
