Sažetak
This paper examines the extent to which eighteenth-century writers of the Franciscan Province of Bosna Srebrena engaged with antiquity and classical themes. Franciscan literary production of the period was primarily expressed through chronicles, sermons, and catechisms; given the narrowly defined didactic function of catechisms, the analysis focuses on the former two genres. The study demonstrates that chronicles, shaped by the internal development of the Province and changing regional circumstances, increasingly emphasized the medieval period as a key component of Franciscan identity. Sermon writers, while drawing on earlier provincial traditions and Western European—particularly Italian—models, likewise made limited use of classical references. Despite the fact that the authors under consideration received a classical education and possessed a solid command of Latin, antiquity played only a marginal role in their works. These conclusions are illustrated through analyses of selected writings by Nikola Lašvanin, Marijan Bogdanović, Bono Benić, Stjepan Margitić, and Filip Lastrić.
