Abstract

Possibilities of development of children’s natural science knowledge and understanding in an early education institution have been considered in this paper. They should be coordinated with specifi c learning characteristics of children at an early age, which requires a high level of reconsideration of the educational process. Particular segments of the educational process have been observed from the perspective of pedagogical and psychological classics and connected with different features of a curriculum. The contemporary conceived early education curriculum, characterized by holistic nature, evolution, co-constructivism characteristics and humanistic features, enables a child to actively acquire natural science knowledge and understanding. In such conditions the child can be affi rmed as a ’’thinker” who actively, responsibly and efficiently participates in making enquiries about and reconsiderations of basic natural science concepts and ideas from the key natural science areas.
