Abstract

The article examines the difficulties in the social development of a boy diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. A case study was used in order to study the boy from his birth to his 15th year of age. We were interested in the extent to which this case was comparable with the one described by Hans Asperger in 1944. By comparing it to the development of typical children we tried to draw attention to the problems and setbacks of children with Asperger Syndrome and their functioning in everyday life, where the attainment of social skills and
successful social inclusion are of vital importance. The article shows that the early detection of the child’s difficulties is of greatest importance, since only the application of proper work strategy in the family environment and during the period of education can contribute to the improvement of the child’s development, his social incorporation and coping with problems, which are no rarity in the everyday life of children with Asperger Syndrome.
