Abstract

The text represents a somewhat changed, so far unpublished lecture from 2000, and discusses 'a new humanism', so called by the late tertiary Franciscan and bishop of Šibenik Srećko Badurina. By 'new humanism' he ment a humanism which had been inaugurated by Christ's spirit. With reference to this, a contrast to the 'old', pre-Christian humanism is discussed. The topic is elaborated in three parts. In the first part, spiritually historic contours of the original European humanism of pre-Christian, antique Greek-Roman inspirations are reflected. In the second part the author tried to find an answer why the initiatives of renaissance humanism of Christian inspirations failed in reforming Christianity and Church in the renaissance period. In the third part the suppositions for prospective outlooks of modern and contemporary humanism of Christian inspirations are discussed.
