Abstract

Text examines Hobbes’ understanding of egoism, especially in the context of his concept of individuality and the concept of the state of nature and civil government. Hobbes’ views are considered to be the true beginning of the modern discussion on egoism and the break with the Christian Middle-Age manner of evaluating egoism which implied strict condemnation of egoistic action.
