Abstract

Contemporary education is oriented toward the student
and toward the development of those skills which will
be expected from young people in the future: critical thinking,
agility and flexibility, creativity and immagination,
cooperation, highly developed literacy and communication,
capacity for spotting and solving problems and readiness
to take responsable leadership roles in demanding
situations. Schools which have conditions for this kind of
teaching are rare. Occasionaly, students can be thaught
outside the school, in cooperation with some institutions
among which college professors recognize the museum as
an excelent «alternative classroom». Cooperative teaching
in the museum and school makes the educational process
more productive and more interesting for students, but puts
comprehensive and responsable work of planing lessons
and their realisation in front of teachers. A museum exhibit
becomes a theme for a school project which will be realized
through both curricular and extracurricular activities. In the
planing phase, it is necessary, after determining the theme
of the project, to form groups respecting the age of the students
and their previously acquired knowledge, establish
goals and assignments for students, determine a timetable,
and finally to select activities for the presentation of the
results and methods used in project evaluation. Research
begins in the museum during exhibition. During observation
it is necessary to make a worksheet with the blueprint of
the exhibition, assignments about shown objects and empty
spaces for sketches.
