Abstract

Importance of prompt and reliable detection of Salmonella in foodstuffs is connected with possible consequences for consumer in case of infection. Efficiency in Salmonella isolation from contaminated materials depends on a great deal of circumstances. Samples of dry skim milk artificially contaminated with Salmonella Virchow were studied using methods prescribed in "Book of rooles" (Pravilnik), those of International Standards Committee (ISO/DIS) and MUCAP-test (Bio-life). According to the results of this study the most reliable growth media were those prescribed in ISO/DIS method being efficient in multiplying and revitalizing Salmonellae. MUCAP-test is suitable to shorten Salmonella detection procedure. ISO-standards method might be used owing to its extra-ordinary reliability.
