This article represents a precise analysis of all the priests that have died in Pula in the aforementioned period. Moreover, if any of Pula priest died outside of the city his name and death were also noted in the Pula records of the dead. Majority of Pula priests had Italian names, though ecclesiastical authorities employed a certain number of priest who spoke Croatian since a great part of the flock did not know Italian. Records of the deceased, born, wed and baptised in Pula are valuable source for various historical and demographic investigation of the Pula society and population in the past. Regarding the priest, one has to emphasise that many recorded priest actually did not live in Pula but only died, since they did not serve in Pula but were only passing through Pula. However, it is necessary to point out that the priests’ stratum in Pula was rather diverse including various ecclesiastical services and monastic orders.
