Abstract

This paper describes the possibility of raising the energy efficiency of buildings by using solar energy for their heating. In addition to presenting the basic concepts of solar energy, the intensity of solar radiation, the energy consumption in buildings, the paper presents the passive solar system for heating buildings. Within the passive solar heating of buildings a special place is given to a thermal system - Tromb wall. The variants of the Tromb wall are shown together with its application in modern architecture. Moreover, the degree of utilization of the Tromb wall is presented using a specific example. It is proven that this system reduces energy consumption and that it represents a reasonable investment. In addition, it can be installed on existing facilities if the other parameters are met (object orientation, thermal insulation, shading and sufficient amount of thermal mass).
