Abstract

Statistical analysis was carried out including 445 buildings which fit the definition of a Zagreb-style built-in apartment house in the period between 1928 and 1934. An average building of that type comprises two residential stories above the ground-floor level, two one-bedroom apartments to the staircase, a single-pitch roof to the street with a flat roof to the backyard as well as an axially symmetrical front at the level of residential stories. New types of fronts, which emerged in 1929 as a result of Modern architectural tendencies, prevailed in 1932. The quality of the built-in apartment house in Zagreb may be seen as a continuity of a high standard of residential housing construction.
