Attitudes of fourth grade students on grading in visual culture

Abstract

Visual culture as part of the school curriculum, particularly today at the age of visual socialisation and communication, is necessary in the humanistic-oriented education and teaching. The purpose of this research was to study the attitudes on the subject Visual culture and understanding of grading in teaching Visual culture with elementary school fourth grade students. The research was done on a sample of 300 students of the schools in Šibensko - kninska and Splitsko - dalmatinska counties. The research results show that the students in both Counties very much like the Visual culture classes, although they
consider the subject to be of average importance for their education. The students want to get also the numerical grade and to hear descriptive evaluation of their artwork. The student do have feedback regarding what the teacher evaluates in their artwork, but it is
necessary to explain the evaluation components based on objective criteria better to the students. The student like the most when they work together with the teacher.
