Abstract

School as a house of joy, in which learning is a challenge and merriment has a transformational strength, which is built and developed, i.e. which occurs on site. Its stronghold is visible in the school’s mission and vision, its positive culture and interpersonal relations. It is merry and playful, spiritual and fun, full of hope and optimism. It develops the passion and desire for learning, the feeling of joy, fulfilment and excellence on the path towards self-realization and success. The aim of this paper is to shed light on the culture of school as a house of joy from the expert associates’ perspective. In addition, the aim is to examine the determinants which contribute to student happiness and satisfaction, but which also contribute to well-being of the community. Research results indicate that school does not sufficiently acknowledge student’ needs, does not develop the passion and desire for learning, does not encourage the experience of success and a social culture of teaching, in which knowledge is shared, critically considered, reviewed and renewed. Student creativity and curiosity is smothered, their individuality and talents are suppressed, their freedom and learning without pressure are constrained, which calls for empowerment and continuous care.
