Abstract

This research, based on the analysis of the previously unresearched documents from Fabijan Kaliterna’s archives, aims to examine the architect’s contribution to the relationship between Genius Loci and Zeitgeist in his projects for the Institute of Sea Biology and Oceanography in Split from the early 1930s. They show how his design approach evolved from his earlier reliance on historical reminiscences into a mature synthesis of contemporary functionalism and traditional regional experiences.
