Abstract

The empirical research on work values reported in this paper was carried out in the year 1988 on a sample of 976 respondents from the city of Zagreb, divided in three groups — group of secondary school pupils, group of students and that of employed youth. The authoress had examined the hierarchy and structure of work values and, by comparison with the results of previously led researches, she offered the data interpretation. The findings obtained showed changes on the evaluation scale of work characteristics, and they also confirmed the initial hypothesis about the inadequacy of the dichotomy model that attributes to work instrumental or expressive meaning. Research has registered the existence of five different work value orientation types — the socio-altruistic, adventurous, authoritarian-technocratic, utilitarian and self-actualization orientation, as well as the existence of statistically significant differences regarding the acceptance of the orientations in question among pupils, students
and employed youth.
