Abstract

The main subject of this study is the change of the mobility patterns through generations. Data of the sample of 3619 respondents are analyzed for three generations. The correlation between occupation of fathers and occupation of children is weaker in the middle generation than in the younger and older. Opening and closing of the regrutation in the different occupational positions has different pattern for different occupations. Starting from these variables we can construct four basic types of occupations. The first one is where the degree of openness for regrutation has not changed through generations (skilled workers). The second type is the one where younger generations show greater closeness of regrutational pattern than the older one (professionals, unskilled workers and peasants). The third type is the opposite pattern of the second one, where the younger generations show greater openness than the older (lower managers and clerks). Finally, the fourth type does not show any linear tendency of opening/closing through generations. The concentration of regrutation is smallest in the middle generation and greater in the old» and the younger (politicians and managers, but also highly skilled workers and artisans).
