Abstract

During the research into the Kopacevski Rit vegetation an interesting water-fern Azolla filiculoides Lam. was found in several places.
In Yugoslavia the A. filiculoides was found for the first time in 1961 on the territory of the AP Vojvodina (Babic-Parabucski 1962).
A. filiculoides belongs to the group of neophyts of American origin (americanoneophyt). At present it is spreading throughouht Europe independently of man’s influence, and most likely distributed by birds.
The A. filiculoides as a floating water-plant enters the structure of the vegetation class Lemnetea, order Lemnetalia, alliance hemnion. In the Kopacevski Rit region in Croatia it enters the composition of the association Salvinio-Spirodeletum polyrrhizae, forming a special subassociation azolletosum filiculoidis.
The subassociation Salvinio-Spirodeletum polyrrhizae azzolletosum filiculoidis is a new plant community not only in the vegetation of Croatia but also in the vegetation of Yugoslavia.
